Darkot Pass Trek

Overview

During the Darkot to Darkot Pass trek, your journey will take you along the lateral moraine of the glacier, and then you'll walk down the wide, flat expanse of the Darkot Glacier, where you'll navigate crevasses and streams for a relatively easy 3-4 hour walk to reach the Chikar Yarkhun Valley. As you progress, you'll be treated to breathtaking panoramic views of granite peaks interspersed with glaciers in every direction. A glaciated ridge, standing at an elevation of 200 meters, serves as a natural barrier separating you from the Zindikharam Glacier. You can then venture further by walking up the Zindikharam Glacier until you reach Lalay Rabat, perched at the summit of the Boroghil region. The descent on the Darkot side is notably steeper, and the glacier can become wet and slippery in the morning sun. Members of the trek are recommended to use crampons for safety. As you continue, make sure to stay on the right side as you approach the glacier. Upon reaching the first bowl beneath the glacier's snout, cross to the left bank and follow a well-marked path that zigzags steeply up to the base of the Yarkhun Valley. This route offers an incredible adventure through the mountainous terrain, providing unforgettable experiences and stunning vistas along the way.
